Distant scenes of people ice skating on Lake Springfield in Ohio in the winter of 1957-1958. This is almost certainly on the Lakemore side. There are some houses visible in the distance. I don't know about today, but the winters were so cold then (and before) people could safely drive their cars across the lake. Also, in the middle of very cold nights, the ice would crack, making an extremely loud sound.
This is a low quality but fairly adequate transfer (via my webcam) of an 8mm movie snippet from the 1957 holidays filmed by my late Aunt. It starts with an old time card to introduce the movie ("A Bit o' Christmas"). Silent movie.
It looks like markcox73 has many videos of fishing in this part of Lake Springfield, including ice fishing.
Thank you. I grew up in Sawyerwood, near Springfield Lake, and I have often wondered what it looked like all those years ago.
