Charlie Warren is one of those truly great musicians who performs on two instruments that are usually relegated to the background. Whether playing Tuba or String Bass the support he offers other musicians ranks as World Class - BUT STILL - the Tuba and String Bass are usually situated safely in the confines of a rhythm section.
BUT NOT THIS TIME!
Charlie's 'Slap Bass Arrangement' on the Finale to The William Tell Overture needs absolutely no introduction. When comedian Bill Cosby was making his first TV appearance back in the 1960s, host Jack Parr slathered on all the accolades he could muster for Cosby's introduction. Yet, in the background you can hear Cosby tell Parr to stop with all the pretty words and just put him on; Cosby just knew he was ready to shine. So here's a clip where a great musician and entertainer is ready to shine and that's enough said.
