  • Best version of this song that I have heard. A great authentic Scottish singer.

  • Magic.Thank you very much for posting this. I saw Druid theatre company perform Sean O'Casey play "The Silver Tassie" last week in the TownHall Galway.

  • She has a lovely voice, let none say otherwise, but where is the bittersweet joy meshed with regret and excitement that this song encompasses. I don't really hear that at all. And the music itself captures none of the grandeur that this song embodies. Fortunately, there are better versions on YouTube to be heard. I'm glad I know the singer's name though, she does have a very fine voice. I hope to find more of her work. Thank you Hazric for posting this.

  • Off the wall, I respected Dylan for singing Rising Sun as a prostitute, the Animals couldn't do that and have a hit record.

  • Yes, I suppose that's true. Years ago Al Jolson sang, "I'm Just Wild About Harry," to great acclaim.

I think I am struck by the sheer, for want of a better word, "masculinity" of the poem and of the arrangements I've heard, which, to my hear, make more sense.

I've no doubt the reverse is true in some cases, as well, but what you write makes perfect sense.

  • Either sex can sing the opposites, Karen Matheson sings Ae Fond Kiss, she is a fine singer, Sheena Wellington.

  • The Lassie's a fine singer, a fine singer, indeed, there's no doubting that.

But shouldn't be singing THIS song. 'Tis a song fit only for a man to sing.

  • Got more of her songs? When I was young I went to Scotland every summer, never heard of her then.
