Sirius XM: Gays Explain "Why I Voted Republican" to Signorile

On the show two days after Election Day 2010 and the Republican takeover of the House, I asked those LGBT people who voted Republican to call in to the show and explain why. Exit polling had shown gay, lesbian, bisexual voters cast a ballot for Republicans in double the numbers from 2008: from 19% to 31%. And yet, the Republican takeover means there will be no votes on anything pro-gay. The same is true in statehouses across the country. The phones lit up with people who voted GOP, for David Vitter LA, for Rand Paul in Kentucky, for Rick Scott in Florida, and for various other House and local races. Here are few of those calls, two from Kentucky and one from Maine, where the caller voted for Paul LePage, the Republican governor-elect who has actually said that that Maine Human Rights Act -- which gives basic anti-discrimination protection to gays, needs to be revisited, in addition to be against marriage equality, which Maine could have been on the brink of voting in again if Republicans didn't take the statehouse and the governorship for the first time since 1964.

The discussion of GOP-voting gays continued the next day, with many calling in to respond to these callers, including Rosie O'Donnell. I will post some of those calls in my next video.

I had to listen to this twice. Basically gay people are voting into office politicians who would gladly deny them the right to marry, the right to adopt children, the right to serve openly in the military, the right to employment non-discrimination, the right to equality period because they want to punish the President who happens to the best hope for progress? Simply stupefying. All they have accomplished is to handicap the one party on their side from passing ANYTHING.

The last caller who wants to adopt a child with his partner doesn't seem to see the connection between his right to do that and voting in politicians who want to take that right away. Michael was spot on.

This has nothing to do with culture, it's about basic civil rights.It's not culture that gets people fired from their jobs for just being gay, etc Suggest you do some thinking. If ur gay u need the same rights I do-doesn't matter what culture you're in.
