California has always been the place where men and women have come to stake their claim and make their dreams come true. Our state's history is ripe with courageous and industrious people who came here to make the most of their talents and ideas in order to carve out a better life. Whether it was settlers from the East, gold miners, immigrants from China or other countries, Hollywood hopefuls or Silicon Valley entrepreneurs, men and women have come here to work. And in the process, powerful industries were developed and infrastructures were built that helped propel California to the 9th top economic spot in the world. It all starts with ideas and these ideas pay dividends. High-speed rail is one such idea that encompasses the technology, creativity and innovation that makes California great. The dividends of a 21st century transportation system are enormous: cleaner air, greater mobility, improved connectivity, jobs and greater economic activity.
