Cars.com senior editor and new-car reviewer Joe Wiesenfelder, in connection with the Car Talk Vehicle Donation Program, is selling a 1979 Fiat Spider formerly owned by Tom Magliozzi, co-host of Car Talk from National Public Radio. All proceeds will benefit WBEZ, Chicago Public Radio. Visit cartalk.com for more history and details.
This is so funny yet true. I still drive my 1979 Fiat Spider and I love it. The trunk, side door and other parts have been replaced due to rust but now it's the garage and I know that I'll need a catalytic converter in 2012

hey, the best thing about it, it's a convertible, you can sit in it and watch the stars come out!

The fact that car is still running after 31 years of abuse from Tom and you, makes me think this car had something special.
I'd buy it in a heartbeat if I were in the US.
And I'd fix it up.

Heh, cool car though. If I lived in Chicago (or US for that matter) I'd totally buy it! And then go on a road trip with it! I love old cars, currently have one 25-year old VW and a 25-year old Ford. Hope the Fiat finds a good owner.

@trwsandford, My bad, Wonder why 5 speeds were so rare on American subcompacts and pickup trucks back then.

This car is simply a victim of time and neglect.
the fact that is has been neglected for 31 years, and still runs quite well... seems to me, to be a selling point.
