I love XTC! My girlfriend gave me the Nonsuch album. I think that is where I quilt following, but I do like My Bird. Maybe I have not given it a chance. It seems everthing else seem to pop.

xtc are just amazing...
their middle career...the albums black sea/english settlement/mummer/the big express/skylarking/oranges and lemons...are just of epic proportions...i don't think you can find a band that had a stronger run than they did...maybe sonic youth...i didn't even put "nonesuch" on here

this song is just so wonderful...!

I agree that this song is amazing, but the other guy(Andy) sings in an irritating self protective way that is what Jung calls the antithesis of art- reaction. This song however, is up there with the Beatles. Many of XTC's songs are awkward and besmirched by too much effort at being original, instead of just "being." And that's my two cents. Mummer had three or four good songs plus little amazing fragments in between Partridge's annoying singing and "look how clever I am melodically" misfires..

Jung would probably be very interested in why Andy annoys you so much ..

Yeah, I'll have to dig him up and shock him back to life for a few minutes. You don't find Andy's singing self-conscious?

Yes i do - but i am aware of that because I am self conscious too. None of us are perfect. lennon showed signs of insecurity and lack of confidence in a similar way to partridge - chip oh his shoulder. Listen to AP ridiculing his own talent - "English Sediment" (sic) , "art with a capital F" , too 'clever' lyrics, forced melodies, socialist rants, shouting, screaming and general hoo-haa. but amongst all that some ethereally beautiful music. also some crap songs too.

But all artists produce some crap, many produce a lot to get the occasional gem. the point is none of us are perfect, we are human and flawed - the difference is JL and AP are also gifted - I am not. Give him a break and compare with the schmoozy, cocky, bland, professionalism of someone like Zappa who I was watching last night. Its raw, flawed and exciting - the definition of punk?

I would have to agree with most of what you wrote. I have been moved by Louder than Bombers in flight, and that Great Fire burning in my house and heart(just that line and then the middle eastern fragment--very eerie), Zappa does stink to high heaven,

Hey I just watched the David Lynch talk in your favorites V8TFcLgu5Ow - very inspirational - maybe AP should consider some ...
