This is a reproduction of a popular toy from india in the 1920's. There are no moving parts in this design. A candle heats up water in an small boiler that has two narrow pipes attached. these pipes exit out the back of the boat. Steam is produced in the boiler and water is thrust out the pipes. The vacume that is produced, sucks more water in and it starts over again. This will run like this until the flame goes out.

  • nicee,

but one question were do you get that pipes?? u got as axhaust,

    plz reply,

    greetz,

    PS. good vid :)

  • The pipes are made from 1/8" steel pipe, I made another one and used just regular 1/8" copper water pipe.

  • how is the cycle so fast on those compaired to self made ones?

  • These toy boats have a "springy" steel side on the "boiler". It flexes as the boiler cools and heats. It makes a noise simular to a empty pop can. Most home made ones use a copper coil for the boiler and it does not flex.

  • did you sand off the top paint layer to get that cool tin look?

  • No....It's actually bare tin, this is a cheap one and they only add a splash of paint. There are some like the Titanic that are fully painted
