Some testers saw 150mph=240kph on the speedo. 140mph was a conservative figure from the factory.Rumour has it the engine produces more like 330hp in reality and not the 286hp claimed. This car was also seen in the awesome chase scene in Ronin. John Frankenheimer has some great taste in cars.

you don't do that to a classic car like that.. idiot!

It was only sold in the USA in 1978 and 1979, with less than 1000 produced for sale here.

@RobertFulton I had a '79 300 SD, Because I wanted a fuel-efficient Mercedes, But it accelerated as fast as an army tank!!! I couldn't even get it up to 100 mph because it sounded like it was straining to reach that speed!! but it could cruise at 65 mph just fine After 2 weeks, I traded it for a maroon on maroon '79 450 SEL 6.9 which I still have today, This car is incredible!!! I've had it up to 145 mph numerous times, I'm pretty well-off so lousy mileage is not that big of a concern to me!! M

Oh, absolutely. In both movies it's awesome and you get to see the hydro-pneumatic suspension working at speed!
0.29 WARP speed engaged... LOL
I love these old beasts. I've got a pristine clean 1971 w109 3.5 myself she picks up her skirts and makes a dash for it in a similar fashion. I've been looking for a good 6.9. Simply out of mindless curiosity I ask you what sort of fuel economy do you get?

@DeMobBoss
Woeful fuel economy! But that's something you never think about when you own one...Dollars get drained quite easily, but the fun of owning a 6.3 or 6.9 outweighs that cost.
