The Realising Resources programme provides educational activities to 75 schools across Bridgend, Neath Port Talbot and the Vale of Glamorgan.

School members are encouraged to participate and focus on methods to reduce utility consumption and waste in order to reduce costs. It concentrates on energy and water conservation together with a 10% waste minimisation and reduction target.

The programme meets a gap in service provision to schools - education around energy, waste and water issues. Interactive workshops linked to the National Curriculum provide pupils and staff with the necessary skills to curb their escalating utility costs and focus on methods of reducing consumption and initiate the process of long-term behavioural change.

Schools now have the systems and procedures in place to manage their resources efficiently. This allows them to reduce their utility usage and increase their recycling, whilst becoming more aware of the issues surrounding resource efficiency.

Community members are also far more knowledgeable about resource conservation compared to when the programme commenced, individuals are presented with the opportunity of learning new skills that they can utilise in their day to day lives.
