without even going back as far as mechanical computing there are almost nothing similar in the architecture of the first electronic computers. Yes all computers are essentially a series of wires and switches that use binary logic to compute but the technology has advanced to the point where a modern computer couldn't be compared to something like the ENIAC

well they do. at their core they are just a series of transistors which used to be mechanical and therefore large.
