The New York Anime Festival attempts to settle one of anime's greatest debates. This video looks a bit different from the rest. Why? Maybe it'll show up on TV. Maybe.
Oh. I just wanted to add, fansubs were good to a point. But like everything, it's pretty much abused to the point where it's getting downright ridiculous.
Er, if you actually have proof of that, let me know.
Because honestly, that's total BS.
And no, you're not automatically considered bad...but honestly, there are assholes who don't give two shits if the industry dies. They'll download until there's nothing left. And won't buy anything to support what they "love."
o_o trust me, I've met people like them. But I'm not going to say everyone is like that. I'll agree it was a little harsh, but...you're pretty misguided yourself.
That, to me, is the wrong way to approach it if one wishes to promote an anime convention and attract fans of all type, bad or good ones. We all know that fansubs are in the gray area when it comes to whether it's right or wrong. But I say that if it weren't for fansubs, the anime industry would not be where it's at today.
Main thing I was trying to convey is that anime fansubs is one one of the bigger part of how anime cons are what they are today. The majority of fans, along with those who manage and arrange cons, have at some point been influenced by fansubs. But fansubs themselves are illegal by technical means. The video depicts a person who downloads anime illegaly yet he gets a beatdown. To me, that implies those who downloads fansubs yet make their purchases (and opt out of going to cons) are scum....-
Copyrights are valid in every country the Berne Convention is supported. I suggest you read up on it. Also if you need examples where Japanese companies have gone after fansubbers over their intellectual properties I suggest you go to animesuki check Help & Info > Articles > Legal Topics > Removal of Media Factory Inc. Works
lol, retard. Copyrights are NOT copyrights. Japan =/= America. We do not have to respect or honor their laws or intellectual material. Go drink a big ol' gallon of bleach and kill yourself.
Copyrights are still copyrights. Getting them is still infringing. The original holders did not consent to distributing shows on the 'net. Whether or not such laws apply to other country is irrelevant. Nobody asked the owners for rights to distribute it.

o.o excuse me? You're saying that NYAF wouldn't prosper without fansubs?
That's kind of a stretch, don't you think? Many anime cons have shown up but fansubs isn't a major factor, if it even is at all.
Please tell me I didn't misunderstand what you were saying.
