Election Environment Forum: Native Forest Logging

Question: What steps will your party take to stop illegal logging, protect our native forests and ensure that there is an adequate supply of plantation sourced timber to meet future timber needs?

Our native forests provide essential wildlife habitat, water supply and carbon storage. Current logging practices in NSW are fundamentally unsustainable, with the government's own analysis revealing a rapid and ongoing decline in timber supply from public native forest. Every year, hundreds of thousands of tonnes of our native forests are exported as low value woodchips. Community audits have revealed widespread evidence of illegal logging of rainforest, old growth and koala habitat.
