TV anchor's curse
When New York anchor woman Sue Simmons cursed at her co-anchor on the air this week, her profanity suddenly became big news. At last count, her slip-up has been watched on YouTube more than seven hundred thousand times.
Now I won't repeat the four letter word she used, but it is one of the most offensive and common ones out there. It's part of text message of abbreviation WTF. And, well, you can simply say "Sue dropped the F-bomb".
My dad always said it doesn't take any class to curse, and he's right. She didn't keep it classy San Diego or NYC. But perhaps more importantly, it showed how this word has entered the lexicon. And it's often greeted with nothing more than indifference.
These days, people throw around the word like "Hey!" or "I am hungry!". When I was growing up, I wasn't even allowed to say "shut up". And while we all slip once in a while, maybe this is a good chance to clean up our acts and perhaps wash all of our mouths out with soap.
