This is the crash that ended Erik Gundersen's brilliant Speedway career. I have been in touch with Erik and have his permission to put this clip on here.

  • essex boy erik walks he is the team manager for the danish junior team and can be seen at major events like the danish speedway gp and have meet him on a visit to the uk since his accident hes a wonderfull guy and made an amazing recovery he was visiting the house he lived in nr wolverhampton when he moved to the uk when he first rode for cradley heath

  • the paramedic that saved his life is my doctor

  • Can still remember the deathly silence at Odsal seconds after the crash. From this angle you can see that King and Nilsen tangle and this pushes Nilsen into Erik's rear wheel which throws him off. i always thought it was Erik who overlocked and King had hit him. One of those freak incidents that 99/100 times it would be a harmless fall. But good on Erik for doing all he has done since this sad day.

  • @motorracingmad

You fucking prick - one of these guys, Erik Gundersen (ex-World Champion) has been in a wheelchair ever since this accident.

  • One of the true greats of Speedway - such a shame this happened to such a genuine, entertaining guy.

Nice to see him on Sky still involved at meetings and helping others despite his horrific injuries.

    God Bless ya Erik.

  • I was (apparently) at this meeting. it was just before my 3rd birthday. first time i've seen it, never imagined it'd be so horrific. from old videos i'v seen he was a cracking rider.
