As has been commented before, it is not a sapphire, but a diamond. Also, not only is it just A diamond, but perhaps THE most famous diamond (at least in the United States). That is the Hope Diamond! It is a colored diamond (which are quite rare) with a dark blue hue. It is very large, weighing over 45½ carats and measuring about an inch. Although difficult to assign a monetary value to such a rare and historical stone, it is estimated at over US$200,000,000!
