Taken at "For and Against Calvinism- A Conversation" event at Biola University on October 15, 2011. A healthy dialogue between Michael Horton (For Calvinism) and Roger Olson (Against Calvinism).

Michael Horton gives a brief summary of what is and what is not Calvinism (or Reformed Theology). He clears up many caricatures of Calvinism and leads us to the true Biblical teachings and the greatest news and assurance of salvation it offers to undeserved and unworthy sinners.

For more detailed info about teaching of Calvinism, you can purchase Michael Horton's new book from Zondervan: "For Calvinism" and Roger Olson's "Against Calvinism"

For audio table discussion about the Reformed Theology, please visit www.whitehorseinn.org "Know what you believe and why you believe it"

John 1:12-13 "Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— *children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God*."

John 6:37-39 "*All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away*. For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that *I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day*."

John 10:25-30 "Jesus answered, "I did tell you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father's name testify about me, but you do not believe *because you are not my sheep*. My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and *they shall never perish*; *no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand.* I and the Father are one."

Romans 9:11-16 "Yet, *before the twins were born or had done anything good or bad—in order that God's purpose in election might stand: not by works but by him who calls*—she was told, "The older will serve the younger." Just as it is written: "Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated."
What then shall we say? Is God unjust? Not at all! For he says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion. *It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God's mercy*."

  • Check out this video on you tube called "THE FIVE DANGERS OF CALVINISM". Pastor Ralph "Yankee" Arnold Video by TLW1963. Excellent in explaining why Calvinism is False Doctrine. Take care and God Bless! (sorry got cut off again)

  • (Oops got cut off sorry.)Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:4 KJV) The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9 KJV)

  • No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. (John 6:44 KJV) And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. (John 12:32 KJV). This he said, signifying what death he should die. (John 12:33 KJV)

Faith is not the Gift of God....Salvation is the Gift of God!

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17 KJV)

  • @Bearkiller Romans 8:7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God(an unsaved man), for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. So when the gospel calls us to repent and believe only those who God has converted(made born Again) can come.John 6:44 No one can come to me(believe)unless the Father who sent me draws him and I will raise him up on the last day. It's like drawing water from a well, one must break all of gravity's Resistance to raise it up.!00% drawn are 100% saved.

  • @Bearkiller I Cor 2:14 But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. This is just one verse but it explains to us that if a man has not been indwelt by God's spirit first,he is like and unborn baby,as the baby is only able to cry after his birth, and man is only able to cry out to God after being born again.God causes this new birth through hearing His gospel, grace by faith.

  • @Bearkiller777 James White read a quote from Roger's book where Roger said he was asked by a student"If It could be shown to you beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Calvinist God was actually God,would you worship Him"Roger said "No,I would not".This seems to be the problem with many Arminians, they hate God and will only accept their"idea of a god they like better",one that they have created.Praise God not all Arminians are like that, since most Calvinists started as misinformed Arminians.

  • @RUSavedByGraceAlone Yes I will tune into the next podcast I am a college student so paying alot for schooling right now so I cannot afford a set of teaching right now but I know the podcast is free so I will tune in.

  • @AudioPuritans Nor do I.

  • @rofyle

I don't think "Calvinism" should be equated with "everything Calvin ever taught."
