These are the Black Rock Hybrid hens I bought for £15 each last week. I've had a few eggs off them already although I think one of them hasn't laid yet. The Hen house was murder to build, some of the timber is a bit rubbish and as soon as I started putting it together it rained almost continuously.

One of the birds gave me a bit of trouble when I got them home, she got away from me and made her way into a neighbour's garden where she disappeared for the afternoon. The neighbours were very understanding and the woman told me they'd found her. After we managed to get back in my garden she made her way indoors and promptly disappeared again, after short process of elimination i found her hiding in the oven of all places.

  • ah great hens... I have 4 different hens, by black rock hen is the boss, and she is the most friendly when im inside she sits on the window sil if she sees me through the window.

Great pets :)... and egg layers,

Great coop there also, very well made! .. you should put some logs or perches out side.. they love that ! :) all the best with them

  • @lauram224 Yeah they're squeezing eggs out faster than I can eat them. Thanks for the tip about the logs, I'll see what I can get together, I'm a beginner at this so let me know if you have any more useful tips

sure, just make sure they have stuff to do or they will get bored and start to peck at each other (if that does happen you can buy anti pecking feather spray... it stinks.. but soon makes them stop)

Anything you need to know just give me a shout... im fairly new to this too. I have only had mine jsut over a year, just hatching some light sussex hens at the moment :) exciting
