The Grandmasters of the Mandeng at play!
At the end of an amazing two weeks of workshops, the Masters gave us a gift by doing this demonstration, what a wonderful treat and inspiration!
Thank you Mamady for giving me permission to post this clip on Youtube.

Two Master Teachers - Ambassadors of Music, Culture, Joy and Peace. Few have done more to spread the music and unifying message of the djembe throughout the world!

Famoudou Konate', a world-renowned virtuoso of the djembe and its orchestra. One of only a handful of initiated Masters of the Malinké drumming tradition, from Hamanah, the birthplace of the Dunumba family of rhythms.

Mamady Keita, an initiated Master whose mission has helped bring the djembe to every continent, making it a global instrument. Founder of Tam Tam Mandingue, the only international school of West African percussion.

  • Great video. I was able to go to Famoudou's workshop in Phoenix that was part of the same Grandmaster's Tour. A real once-in-a-lifetime experience.

  • I attended the Dallas portion of the Grandmaster Tour and this video very well captures its spirit. Never have I experienced such a deeper sense of community and brother/sisterhood. Famoudou and Mamady answered all the questions peppered at them, delivered spectacular performances and unsurpassed instruction. I would give up food for this, it nourished my soul. By the way, Famoudou is not confused, he's fun-loving! Loves a good joke!

  • @Nebrox Famoudou's not confused, he's just pretending. At their level, they can pretty much play anything the other one throws at them, but it makes for a more fun show with a bit of clowning :) This is a classic example of that - great video!

  • Two Grandmasters having fun on djembe.

I love how Mamady plays little phrases that are short but very difficult to imitate.

He knows just what to play to confuse Famoudou.

    Great video.

  • Simply fantastic! Two of my favorites. Thanks for posting!!! :)
