Sheri Williams Pannell is a very gifted and perceptive director. I'm glad she has taken on this project to bring the story of Jackie Robinson to the Madison, Wisconsin community. I just hope that this fine production doesn't get mired in controversy about the N-word. As the actors and director have expressed, the word is necessary if the play is to show the hardships Jackie Robinson endured, the assaults on his body and his spirit. This play has much to teach us about racism and perseverance.
