Some views of the two streams which comprise Thornbury's Streamside Walk (a "linear park"). Although Thornbury takes pride in its streams, none seem to have an official name. This filming took place on 10 February 2009 after a shower of rain which helped remove most of the remaining snow which had fallen less than a week earlier. So both streams are fuller than normal, as a consequence of the rain and melting snow.

The section in the video begins at Gloucester Road, by the signposted weak bridge, and continues downstream along what I am going to call Vilner Stream, as I believe it rises in the part of old Thornbury known as Vilner, of which Vilner Lane, near Thornbury Leisure Centre is a remnant [although the owner of the Images of Thornbury website has named it "Hospital Stream"].

[" Before the town's expansion there was a surface stream from Vilner which fed the Bathings and then passed under the road at Gillingstool where the borough boundary stone is situated. At this point the road was prone to flooding to such an extent that the depth on the south side would be sufficient to duck anyone. I can remember in the 1940s seeing the children from Crossways and the Hacket waiting on the road for a passing lorry or cart to ferry them through the flood to get to school."

In the video the stream passes under Park Road and continues through an area which acts like a miniature flood plain, before meeting up with the second stream, which I shall call Morton Stream [although the owner of the Images of Thornbury website has named it "Millstream"]. The video then takes you upstream along that second stream to Gloucester Road again, near the Anchor.

["Streamside walk - A footpath called Streamside Walk starts at Gillingstool Primary School, passes over several roads and bridges, past Thornbury Hospital and Manorbrook Primary School and on to the north of Thornbury where the stream leaves the town. Another stream runs through the north east of Thornbury and merges at an old mill. It is a pleasant walk, especially the section with the stepping stones."
