  • On this date in 1962 {Mar. 3rd} "Johnny Angel" entered Billboard's Top 100 chart; on April 7th it would peaked at #1 {for 2 weeks} & spent 15 weeks in the Top 100...

    Ranked 6th on Billboard's Year-End Hot 100 Singles of 1962 chart...

It's sequel, "Johnny Loves Me", peaked at #21

The Blossoms sang back-up on this record...

Reached #1 on the Canadian Singles chart and in New Zealand...

Also in 1962, British singer Patti Lynn peaked at #37 in the U.K.

  • Shelley's hair doesn't suit her. Maybe if she lost the hair that's standing up on the top.

  • It's a great song. You don't hear songs like that on the radio, unless it's an oldies or classic hits station, but I love hearing songs like this. Shelley still looks beautiful. Happy 50th Birthday, Johnny Angel.

  • I think her LP was great, she did a supurb job on every song!

  • Shelly, please do a DOO WOP show for PBS. 'Johnny Angel' will be greatly appreciated by anyone who loved that song.

  • This interview is a gem indeed....Shelly shed some fun facts about the song we all saw and heard on the show....^/^

  • She always sounded really great doing Johnny Angel!!! I love that song!!! Reminds me of this guy I met in 1990!!! <3

  • Shelley has always claimed through the years that she "can't sing" - as if to say she couldn't sing AT ALL - this really isn't true, she could carry a tune, and she could carry it well enough that with the proper Echo chambers, voice doubling and strong background singers, the end result was fine. So, I think it would be more accurate to say she wasn't a strong singer but with the help of modern recording technology her songs came across nicely.

  • I loved the show. watched it every week. Had a big crush on Paul Petersen. I lip

synked Johnny Angel at a contest and won the prize. wore out the 45. It's great to see Shelly here. Thanks for sharing this interview.
