The Halo 3 Beta was released with the game Crackdown. Basically, It was a demo released by Microsoft and Bungie for 2 weeks so they could see if there were any problems with the multiplayer gameplay. They're doing it again with Halo Reach, just be sure to get Halo 3 ODST.
