Really brings back memories--Lou Rawls singing his soulful alphabet song--thank you for posting this. I remember this piece was one of the first Sesame Street segments featuring a celebrity helping kids learn the alphabet. I was five when the show first aired in 1969.

Sounds just like "Dead End Street"! ;)

That guy packs a LOT of soul. Whatever happened to soulful music by the way?

That really takes me back in time. I remember being five when SS first aired.
I am now just recalling how Lou Rawls a very popular singer during the 60's. He is now remembered for "I'll see when I get There" and other songs from the 70's

Brother Lou RIP
Music on SS RIP.
After 40 seasons CTW has decided to change the show's format. No more band (going electric-hip hop), tearing down the sets moving to CT and shooting in front of green screen.
Very SAD.

yes.
They changed it for the 2nd season.

Ah man, took me back like short pants and 8 track. Remember this back in Jamaica.

I remember that this and appearances on various TV variety shows of the day introduced me to this great singer. Did anyone notice that the layout next to the apartment building looks much different than it did during subsequent seasons?
You'll never find... as long as you live
Someone who loves the alphabet like Lou do.

Remember back when Sesame Street used to be an actual show? Pre-Elmo? This was back before people used to dumb down things for kids. Children aren't stupid, they simply do not have the skills or knowledge base. Thanks for the Post.
