I reckon u can tell a big day when it takes a while for a pitching lip to hit the water. At 0:37, that wave took almost 2 seconds from lip to trough. That's a big fucker! I guess that means it's 20metres (u backward fukkn Yanks still using feet and inches pffft!) according to s=ut + 1/2at2. Or: distance = 1/2*9.8*(2squared)

Taken from a blog that was posted the same day: "A legendary big wave surfing contest, the Quicksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau, may be held today for the first time since 2004 if waves reach a minimum of 40 feet (12 meters), organisers said. The event is only held in perfect conditions"
I'll post the awards ceremony as a Video response from the Eddie, that happened the next day in this bay ( Waimea ). Thanks for the opinion.
