LoL. To answer the Q: "What is the aurora?" AKA "Northern Lights" = reaction that takes place in Earth's upper atmosphere, in the magnetosphere. Radiation emitted from the sun (AKA "Solar Wind") sometimes hits Earth as it goes by. It is deflected by the atmosphere, so the display is only visible at high/low latitudes because the planet deflects radiation away towards the poles. The light is a chemicle reaction between solar radiation & electrically charged particles in the magnetosphere.

Northern lights is actually light that is coming out of the opening in the Earth at the north pole. The light is emitted from the Earths inner sun

this is one of the most beautiful things i have ever seen. one of the things i want to do before i die is to be right there and watch these northern lights.
