Stephen Attenborough - Part 3 - The Future of Space Tourism

Stephen Attenborough is the Commercial Director for Virgin Galactic, the worlds first space tourism agency. Stephen described the evolution of Virgin Galactic and gave an overview of the technology they will be using, in large part due to the engineering skills of Burt Rutan. The upcoming renaissance of space travel was also discussed as the potential benefits of suborbital flights and access for researchers to conduct zero gravity experiment was outlined.

It´s not a 1 in 90 chance of coming back when riding the Shuttle or the Soyuz, it´s a 1 in 90 chance of NOT coming back. He keeps making little mistakes, ...1000s of times more safe to launch a rocket from a plane than from the ground... Why?... He must be in sales rather than engineering :-)

Yeah, that's pretty much the way I see it.

The way I see YouTube is different than it was before, and it is not a change for the better. It's harder to tell what is a reply to what.

I like these rich guys. They're paying for the R&D of the whole thing. Without that, we're all sunk.

It sure is a hell of a lot more impressive to me than if they spent their disposable cash on huge yachts that cost 1 million. You could go to space five times for that.

And of course, Rutan is a funny guy, a great engineer, never designs anything that I consider "normal". His stuff all looks alien, or melted in an oven, or both, but more importantly....it works.

Well, I for one hope this works. I may not ever be able to go, but at least somebody will be able to. I have nieces and nephews, and I was starting to wonder if even THEY would ever get to go.
