It's too bad they were never sold here in the USA. It would've given people looking for a rugged, go anywhere, SUV to play around in the mud with. As usual, govt. market usually decides what vehicles can be sold. And I can't imagine that they would've wanted built in the Soviet Union, or even the former Soviet Union, probably because of their Communist history. I, for one, don't care, I'd buy one if it were available.
