I'd been searching for Dhapan for several months now, and finally caught up with him. I was first introduced to Dhapan by Makuma Yunupingu, and was impressed by the way Makuma spoke of him, Makuma being an accomplished yidaki player himself having been a previous member of Yothu Yindi and ear-marked as a potential front-man of the band should Mandawuy hand over the reins.
Dhapan is a Gumatj man who lives at Galiwin'ku, Elcho Island. He is married to Sophia Gurruwiwi who was a backing singer for Yothu Yindi band for many years.
Dhapan's father, Harry Landhuni, was an expert yidaki player who specialised in the djartpangarri genre. Landhuni appeared in the popular Australian television series "Skippy" and has toured domestically and internationally as a yidaki player.
