My 1999 Persian Gulf Deployment #3: Phuket, Thailand - hanging out at Patong Beach

These videos are from my first deployment to the Persian Gulf, June-December, 1999. I was aboard HMCS Regina which was a part of a US Battlegroup headed by the USS Constellation aircraft carrier.

We spent 9 days in Phuket, Thailand, not sure why so long but I wasn't arguing. By the way, Phuket is pronounced poo-KET.

I almost tried one of those chocolate covered grasshoppers just to say I'd done it but I wimped out.

The first stray dog I petted, I had to ditch at a mall when it came time to leave. I went in to the mall and came out a different exit. I looked back and the little guy was laying there waiting for me. I felt like crap but I had a feeling they wouldn't let me back on the ship with him.

There were a lot of girls sunbathing topless but this is a family video :) It was nice to see after a couple of months on a ship full of just guys. It was good in a way because guys tend to get stupid around girls, right? But girls are nice to talk to and hang around.

Lots more Thailand stuff, I had a boa constrictor around my neck, I rode an elephant and I visited "James Bond Island". Check back!
