Beautiful Losers celebrates the creative spirit behind one of the most influential cultural movements of a generation.

In the early 1990's a loose-knit group of likeminded outsiders found common ground at a little NYC storefront gallery. Rooted in the DIY (do-it-yourself) subcultures of skateboarding, surf, punk, hip hop & graffiti, they made art that reflected the lifestyles they led. Developing their craft with almost no influence from the "establishment" art world, this group, and the subcultures they sprang from, have now become a movement that has been transforming pop culture.

Starring a selection of artists who are considered leaders within this culture, Beautiful Losers focuses on the telling of personal stories...speaking to themes of what happens when the outside becomes "in" as it explores the creative ethos connecting these artists and today's youth.

Featuring Ed Templeton, Barry McGee, Margaret Kilgallen, Jo Jackson, Chris Johanson, Thomas Campbell, Geoff McFetridge, Mike Mills, Stephen Powers, Harmony Korine and Shepard Fairey.

A film by Aaron Rose with brand new music by Money Mark.

  • This should be an inspiration to artists everywhere! :D

  • Well made documentary that leaves the viewer with an appreciation of the art and authentic glimpses into artistic personalities. The starving artist/art who comes to be appreciated and esteemed is old story. The Renaissance prinices and popes liked to own their artists; global capitalism allows the artist to accept or to decline commissions, celebrity, and so on. We want to live in a more beautiful environment. That requires artists working mainstream. Available on AMAZON PRIME VIDEO!

  • Ok, in my opinion, this is punk. Being a kid even though you are an adult. You still have the child like mind.

  • @rvpsmdsk We live in a capitalistic world, nothing can be done without money, even promote free street art, free thinkin and free spirit in general. Cut the crap...

  • would have loved to see a few black artists featured in this film as well

  • nice spirit, but too much: "you can't be in our gang unless you came from a broken home". Would have been cool if they were friends with a completely posh rich businessman with a big heart and who could also paint like a genius. that would have been much more thought provoking

  • THOSE WHO WANT NOTHING, CREATE OR CHANGE NOTHING

brilliant and inspiring film, reminiscent of friends i had in high school... bored, yet brilliant and talented nerds expressing themselves for the sake of expression! i fear that the overindustrialization and commercialization of art and music, and the new ease of technologies' ability to instantize EVERYTHING has stunted the creativity of TODAY's youth by smouldering the angst-driven rebellious courage that spawns revolution.
