Beautiful Losers celebrates the creative spirit behind one of the most influential cultural movements of a generation.

In the early 1990's a loose-knit group of likeminded outsiders found common ground at a little NYC storefront gallery. Rooted in the DIY (do-it-yourself) subcultures of skateboarding, surf, punk, hip hop & graffiti, they made art that reflected the lifestyles they led. Developing their craft with almost no influence from the "establishment" art world, this group, and the subcultures they sprang from, have now become a movement that has been transforming pop culture.

Starring a selection of artists who are considered leaders within this culture, Beautiful Losers focuses on the telling of personal stories...speaking to themes of what happens when the outside becomes "in" as it explores the creative ethos connecting these artists and today's youth.

Featuring Ed Templeton, Barry McGee, Margaret Kilgallen, Jo Jackson, Chris Johanson, Thomas Campbell, Geoff McFetridge, Mike Mills, Stephen Powers, Harmony Korine and Shepard Fairey.

I can see this costing money, but it really should just be to cover the costs of production. "Beautiful Losers" is, in essence, a public service - a message to the masses to be have integrity to their identity.

It's funny how so many hate that this film was ultimately produced and distributed on dvd, because they expected it to be free. Like these dvds are just going to pop out of your ass in a well produced and edited fashion with a great soundtrack to boot. It could just be some incoherent piece of drivel clouding up youtube like most artist docs end up being. Most "artists" and critics don't even know what it's like to actually starve to make art. You guys do. And your work is appreciated.

Well made documentary that leaves the viewer with an appreciation of the art and authentic glimpses into artistic personalities. The starving artist/art who comes to be appreciated and esteemed is old story. The Renaissance prinices and popes liked to own their artists; global capitalism allows the artist to accept or to decline commissions, celebrity, and so on. We want to live in a more beautiful environment. That requires artists working mainstream. Available on AMAZON PRIME VIDEO!
