"Predominantly a pushrod engine"?
You require both a method of spinning the camshaft AND a method of actuating the valves, niether one is predominant, if one is missing the engine doesnt run.
I dont know what pushrod OHV engine you are refering to that doesnt have a timing chain but it isnt this one.

You'll find that alot of the larger V8s don't rev that high anyway. The V8 used in the 70's Holden Commodore, which I think isn't too dissimilar to this V8, if not the same, (correct me if I'm wrong) only revved to 4250rpm. This V8 has been around since the early sixties. I think GM had it first, but didn't want it, so sold it to Rover. This V8 was in production for over 40 years and used in many vehicles. It was a sad day when production seized.

thanks for the reply. i've just bought an 80 sd1 that has the efi snorkel on it, and i'm very very new to these..i'm only using the engine and trans out of this car...is there a market for body parts, glass, etc...this car is pretty rusty down low, but the doors are good as is all the glass and hatchback. normanplombe (at) yahoo com

you could have had the one i sold to a dutch police officer 1year ago an ex met flying squad uc car 5.0ltr V8 twin turbo with racing exhausts and racing suspension had too many parts to list but the gist of it is this 1200bhp 700lbs of torque top end well i got it to 249mph heading on the A4 towards schipol before i had to slow for the next corner 1 mile further down the road

Yeah, but it's prodominantly a pushrod engine though

There is still a timing chain on this one.
is this a common intake manifold?.i've been wanting to do something similar with some kehein cv carbs.

@normanplombe - very common, up to the mid 80s when EFi tookover virtually all Rover V8 had this type of manifold

Is there something wrong with your tachometre or is it a quick, but low revving V8?

Nothing wrong with it at all. It's an old pushrod V8 (that was conceived about 50 years ago), it's not designed to rev high!
