This is Charlie Parker's "Scrapple From The Apple" from the Hal Leonard "Jazz Play Along" series. Played on a '95 Rickenbacker 4003 fretless bass with nylon tapewound strings.

  • I would cut off one of my legs for a fretless rick, count yourself lucky

  • @crazybassist100 I was particularly lucky because I found that bass locally on craig's list. Keep an eye on ebay, there are usually one or two a month and the price isn't crazy if you stay away from the "rare colors" or the vintage 4001's.

  • I think it sounds great! Very uprightish.

  • @Celticsaint777 thx...appreciate the feedback.

  • are the hal leonard play alongs in tab or standard notation?

  • @joesteed7 Although there aren't any of that series in tabs (that I know of), they do give you the charts in bass clef as well as treble clef

  • @ihatenjoi oh, i didnt know

  • @rushzeppelin2112 Dude, pickups will register nylon strings. Trust me.

  • @ihatenjoi they probably arent nylon because if they were the pickups wouldnt be able to register them. theyre probably dr black beauty roundwonds

  • @squiresuzuki Probably. I'm just not a fan of nylon. Fretless, I can live with.

  • @ihatenjoi I'm guessing it has nylon strings in order to emulate an upright bass better.

  • @Propane45 Yup...he was definitely a part of the motivation for acquiring a fretless Rick and trying the nylon strings.
