William Bell's lab at Harvard was closed back in the 70s and Walter Bishop wound up in an insane asylum. Maybe they had HDTV in the parallel universe (I saw on last week's Fringe there was a car with a CD player back in '86 in that world!) but there's no way it was invented then. It would have been called 880xtreme or something and no TV supports 880Hz.
