This episode of Humanities Salon was presented in conjunction with the Black Fashion Museum on June 23, 2002. Ann Lowe was a prominent African American clothing designer and seamstress who produced gowns for movie stars, royalty, and first lady Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy.

The program was moderated by Smithsonian curator emeritus Edith Mayo, and features guest speakers Carol R. Gibbs, historian and author; Robin Givhan, Washington Post fashion editor; and Linda Ann Dixon, great granddaughter of Ann Lowe.
