Virgin of Guadalupe draws millions of pilgrims

Millions of pilgrims descend on Mexico City every year to visit the shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe.

Some spend days walking - or crawling - from their home towns across Mexico to make the Catholic pilgrimage.

In a country ravaged by violence, poverty and crime, the virgin provides the gift for those in need of hope.

Al Jazeera's Rachel Levin reports from Mexico City.

Too bad the image of Guadalupe was made up by the Spaniards to appease the Indians. Mexico was conquered in 1521,Guadalupe showed up 10 years later in 1531. There was an account of how the indians started to accept the Spanish and were converted by the thousands. Conveniently ,for the Spanish , the Indians never revolted again.. Classic case of the use of religion as an opiate. It's extremely sad that Mexicans to this day believe the Spanish lies.But it's their choice, may they do as they like
