These are two songs by Peggy Lee and the Benny Goodman orchestra, recorded in the 1940s.

There are two songs in this video -
The first is How Deep Is The Ocean?, and the second is an alternate take. The two are very similar, but I thought I would include them both.

  • @zimnochmusic clearly, we see eye to eye ;)

  • @misstreebird I like your teardrops! ;-)

  • @zimnochmusic Absolutely. I don't know why the change, but "if I ever lost you, how much would I cry" is deep - as the ocean. I think that thought perfection. Just one teardrop's opinion ;)

  • @ClassyOldMusic The change in the climatic strain gives a whole new shade of meaning to the lyric. I think the original "lost you" is denoting more permanence to the love relationship (as in the only thing that could part us would be death). "If you ever left me" gives the possibility that it wasn't real from the beginning. By pop music standards, not much of a difference, but by the standard of one of the greatest love songs, I think it does matter. Thanks for pointing this out!

  • @ClassyOldMusic Thank you so much for sending me the lyrics to this beautiful song. Sunny greetings from the edge of the Aegean Sea, where today I was swimming in the deep water in Greece.

  • @zimnochmusic

She also changed the lyrics... "If I ever lost you"... to "And if you ever left me"... I like the change...

Peggy Lee... "one of the best"?... to me... her heavenly angelic beauty is represented and heard... in her God gifted voice.

  • @janetathensbay Peggy Lee - How Deep Is The Ocean Benny Goodman & Peggy Lee Written by Irving Berlin Arranged by Eddie Sauter How deep is the ocean? How high is the sky? How much do I love you? I'll tell you no lie How many times a day Do I think of you? How many roses are Sprinkled with dew? How far would I travel To be where you are? How far is the journey From here to a star? And if you ever left me How much would I cry? How deep is the ocean? How high is the sky?
  • @bearcub410 "Her wonderful talent should be studied by all vocalists; her regal presence is pure elegance and charm."

    – Frank Sinatra, 1994

  • @janetathensbay just google it, the only difference is that this version swaps the first and 2nd line
