I believe he was originally supposed to be a child molester, but it was too controversial at the time when the original was released. I liked it, but there were too many holes in the story.
For example, if you watch the alternate ending, he changes his face back to the way it was before he got burned up...If he can do that, then why is he so upset about getting burnt up in the first place?? THIS REMAKE WAS PURE SHIT EVERYTHING WAS DONE COMPLETEY WRONG JUST STICK TO THE ORIGINAL MASTERPIECE

That and they decided to make him less funnier and more sadistic too. I dig it but the effects I say (although overdone in newer horror flicks) was awesome in this one. The story being revamped didn't really set well to the original but was still pretty solid.

@tjonahue no they should've kept him like the old killer.
If they wanted to make it more worse they've should've made how Freddy warps reality more scarier and awesome. Then they wouldn't have to change him into that worse criminal.
