@yoyoboy70 a language is heavily tied to its culture. each language can express certain cultural concepts that are unique to the culture of that one language. infact, when a language dies, its culture dies with it. yes, it would be far more practical if we all spoke one language, but that would mean that we'd all live in a simplistic world without any sort of diversity. most ppl dont believe that having a one-world language is worth the consequences.

@yoyoboy70 Ones' language is ones' connection to the past and ancestors. The death of a language is the death of a culture
-
why does it really matter if a language 'dies'. I find it better that all humans can communicate with each other, it removes the language barrier.
-
Machine telepathy. Once we figure out how aliens telepathically communicate with humans - in ANY human language - then we'll be able to resurrect any dead language we want.

@FarfettilLejl Babies have an almost unlimited capability to learn languages until the complete formation of their cervical column (I think that is right). My niece will be born in April and I am going to teach her Japanese and Italian.

With the world at our fingertips, the world is shrinking into a unified culture and language. It won't happen overnight, but one world government will arise.

I can speak tongues :D
-
In any language:
Ohhhhh, ahhhhhh!
That sounds like sexual pleasure

@Weissman33 Do you (will you) teach your kids English or you won't speak to them at all and hope that they will miraculously acquire any knowledge of the language?
The fact that my children will know the language I speak means that they'll be able to talk to the rest of my family - how does this limit their communication? How can I let them decide if they want to speak my language? When they're 18 and it's too late to learn to speak it fluently? You're right, you're a stupid American.
