  • Today there are seven Indian-made and operated remote sensing satellites in orbit, the largest number of any country in the civilian domain.

They can map at a resolution of less than a metre, which means you can literally count the number of soldiers marching in a formation, anywhere on Earth.

  • what do u mean by "country in the civilian domain" what does that mean?

  • remote sensing satellites for studying weather, studying global change and managing global resources !!

  • so india does not have any miltary saterlites, for strategic miltary planning? so what u saying is indian miltary uses civilian technology for the miltary?

  • According to the Indian government, both satellites (Cartosat 2 launched in January 2007 and Cartostat 2A launched in

April 28 2008) are designed for help in planning urban and rural development projects, but can also be used to gather intelligence for military.

The Cartosat 2A will reportedly give the Indian government the ability to monitor missile launches from either China or Pakistan.

  • Some say CARTOSAT 2A is India's first dedicated military reconnaissance satellite. It will cater to military and intelligence specifications than any existing Indian satellite.
