Makin' Up Time [Johi2410]

Hope this is rockin' enough for a decent return to Youtube. I haven't been around much lately, due to a lot of work I had to do, but now I had the chance to sit down and record this great Dale Watson song. You all gotta go listen to Dale if you haven't, he's amazing full stop. Honestly, I have listened to many many albums back and forth, but it never happened to me that I had one record spinning in the CD player as long as Dale's "Truckin' Sessions". This is one of my favorites from that great album Dale put out. All the best to Dale and the Lone Stars (his band). It's a shame he is called "alternative" country whereas his music is as country as Nashville's stars haven't been in years.

Excellent, I like that lap steel you got there, are you using just a flat pick with bare fingers, as opposed to the thumb and finger pick combo?

Johi what kind I say, I think this is your most accomplished video yet. I am very impressed at your musicianship, lead telecaster, slide guitar etc and it all sounds great, like youve recorded with a band! Singing has really gotten good too. Can I asked where you learned to play that kind of country telecaster? I mean all the improvised backup notes and little runs? Its a very country style of playing and I want to know where you learnt it so maybe I can

Thank you so much Gav! I'm really glad you kept me in mind and returned here :-)

As far as the guitar playing is concerned, I really can't say... it's just a mixture of a) the Luther Perkins base, b) the Bakersfield picking I tried to learn (see Lerb21's lessons for that), c) listening to Dale Watson, Bill Kirchen, Junior Brown etc. play, and d) band gigs... I still have a lot to learn, but I am glad you like it and it works when I play :-)
