  • Ooo nice. I had a 1924 Brunswick Radiola Regenoflex very similar to this, but it was in bad condition and I got rid of it years ago. Wish I could of kept it. So the radio side of it is an RCA right? Anyway, very nice machine you have, thanks for the post!

  • Yes, it's a radiola...I still have to get that part restored, but its in the works!!

  • Jazzbaby - Thanks again. I had an Edison gramophone and realized when I got it home that it wasn't much use, even though about 100 78s came with it.

All were corny and no jazz.

How many jazz and more desirable 78s did Edison make, do you know?

Edison himself was against change and stuck with cylinders till he had to change.

Do you know the story? It's fascinating reading.

  • Oh yes, a story I'm very familiar with! I agree a lot of Edison recordings aren't that hot. Personally I like some of the "schmaltz" he put out. Some of Edison's orchestral recordings are out of this world for sonic qualities. The sappy ballads tend to leave you cold though! The jazz on Edison is there, it's hard to find though! Most collectors with an Edison machine are looking for those (few and far between) great discs!

  • Jazzbaby - Thanks for this vid. Can you clarify something?

I was under the impression that only Edison machines could play Edison 78s because of the fine grooves. Edison machines had a light-weight, floating head and a diamond needle.

    What does this Brunswick have?

  • Hi -

The Brunswick has a reproducer that rotates around to play Diamond Discs. It has a diamond mounted (like an Edison reproducer) that plays them, this one was never used until I got it!

  • Great I have the same unit. Any idea how to tell what kind of Superheaderodyne Radio is in the BR 260? It's going to be the160,260 or the 360.

  • The best Edison I ever found was one by Red and Miff's Stompers. I didn't know a Brunswick machine would play Edisons.

  • Fantastic to hear dancing music from nineteentwentyfour.....!!!

  • Beautiful! Back in 1979 or 1980 I got the cabinet for one of these, the guts had been long since taken out. For years used it as a bookcase. 7 or 8 years ago, had a cabinet maker reinforce the cabinet and converted it to hold a TV and VCR. Would love to find a working one of these, but very much enjoy having the cabinet which I do have and feel very fortunate considering they are not easy to find in any condition.

  • Very Good Jazz Baby. You're not kidding when you say the good Diamond Discs are hard to find. You may find one in every 50.If I liked Vernon Dahlhart I'd have hundreds.

  • It's me (I changed back to my real name). Anyway, I had the 1924 Radiola. I noticed that your thread talks about diamond needles. mine had steel needles, I didn't know Diamond was around!

  • uhmm i remember my grandfather´s times

  • I see why you talk so proudly on th the board about this machine!!! Now I'M JEALOUS!

    Mooo
