Ron Paul rejects universal health care, believing that the more government interferes in medicine, the higher prices rise and the less efficient care becomes.

He points to how many people today are upset with the HMO system, but few people realize that HMOs came about because of a federal mandate in 1973. He also points to the 1974 ERISA law that grants tax benefits to employers for providing insurance but not individuals; he prefers a system which grants tax credits to individuals. He supports the U.S. converting to a free market health care system, saying in an interview on New Hampshire NPR that the present system is akin to a "corporatist-fascist" system which keeps prices high. He says that in industries with freer markets prices go down due to technological innovation, but because of the corporatist system, this is prevented from happening in health care. He opposes socialized health care promoted by Democrats as being harmful because they lead to bigger and less efficient government.

Paul has said that although he prefers tax credits to socialized medicine, he would be willing to "prop up" the current systems of Medicare and Medicaid with money saved by bringing troops home from foreign bases in places such as those in South Korea.

  • this man should have been our president.

  • Awesome to see Ron Paul in his earlier years. Its amazing how much sharper he is today in his old age. Everyone I know his age is lucky to remember what they had for lunch.

  • @Surrealbeliefs handicapped*

  • @IMAGIMATIONanimation There's day after pills and other contraception tools that can be utilized within hours, or even days to great success to address your first comment. Personally I don't see the difference between a living being inside a womb, or a living being outside a womb, so you know where my stance on this is at. I'd prefer to make it easier to prompt adoption and advocate that route instead. We don't kill mentally handicap people, even if they remain infantile for their entire lives.

  • one man's single traumatic event should not limit all female's freedom of her own body.

  • Ron Paul is a douchebag and no one can prove otherwise

  • @jneil2007

Well, at least we share the opinion that people should decide for themselves, and I agree with that.

  • @IMAGIMATIONanimation Well abortion is murder in my opinion. There have been cases where woman raise kids that were victims of rape and grew up perfectly fine. I know that's tough but if we want to get away from using abortion as a form of birth control than everyone will just come in and say they got raped. But this issue really depends on personal morality, that's the only way it will be solved. But I say let the states deal with it instead of a one size fits all. And as far as disabled same.

He is a doctor who only has experience in a nation with exclusively private systems. I live in the US, but I lived in Korea for several years. South Korea has a universal health care system, and I can tell you that their healthcare system is much more efficient than the healthcare system in the US, is equal in quality of care, and covers the entire population, unlike the US. Most importantly though, it costs only a quarter of the amount US citizens spend.

Then answer me this question jneil2007, is a woman who is pregnant with a rape child responsible for treating sex like a game? A rape victim did not choose to have sex. Should be she punished with raising a child she did not intend on raising?

Or, lets take another argument. Many abortions are conducted because a child is detected to have severe disabilities. Is it morally responsible to force two people (the mother and the baby) to suffer due to the disability?
