@afannell Either way I'm fairly certain Smiley and Brayton were goners the way they hit the wall, and Savage didn't directly die of his injuries, that was the hospital screwing up a blood transfusion.

@afannell Same with Dale Sr.
-
a lucky crash glad he was ok
-
@afannell smiley?! no. he would still be dead my friend.
-
And the fact that he slammed head first into the wall at full speed. I'm not sure the soft barrier could do much to help that. Even if the crash had been less gruesome he still probably would have died.
-
Actually I'll take that back about Gordon Smiley because the car that he was drove back then was so unsafe.
-
HANS is also very important. I'm not sure if Gordon Smiley would have survived with HANS or even soft wall...
-
dangerous corner:P

Britain's next best hope in indycar. I think Dan Wheldon has had his day.
Right...meaning one less person to "miraculously" dive in for fuel to let her win the race. Mm hm...

I wish they had these soft wall wayyyy back in the 70's, 80's & 90's. Drivers like Scott Brayton, Jovy Marceli, Gordon Smiley and Swede Savage would be alive today.
