This exercises are called "tortures", and is very helpfull for your technique, but please don't stay with just this exercise. Dale only shows the 1234/4321, but you should also do 1324/4231, 1423/3241, 1432/2341, 3412/2143, 3421/1243, etc. Think of any posible combination and do it with a metronome.
