I used to have one of these. I didnt like that the speaker was also the microphone. RS had an earlier one of these and it had a separate mic and speaker I would have used that one but sadly it's no longer made. I had it wired to an old YakBak case and it played thru the YB's speaker and had 2 audio cords on it hooked to the speaker that connect to a stereo. I may actually get one of these again and make what you made and maybe add an audio output jack.

at the microphone, replace(or just solder it so there will be a microphone and mp3 jack) it with mp3 jack, connect it to your computer than play any song you like for 20 second!!!!

I got my 1st solid state sound recorder in FEB 1994, it recorded for 20 secs. Since then I have been collecting them. You can see most of them on my channel including a large 1998 dinosaur called the OPTIMUS DR100, the 1st recorder to aproach 40 mins record time.

I'd like to, but where could I get a good small mechanism? I did have an idea one time of getting an old cassette recorder (one that's not the greatest) and building a custom case for it, have a 20 second loop tape cassette built in, with a speed switch allouwing diffent record times, and having the rewind, fasf f, and eject bottons off and only allowing play, record, and stop. Cool, eh?

Sometime, I need to make a video of the "Smoke Detector Speaker"! I took out the smoke detector circuits and put in a speaker. It was done originally in 2001, but in 2004 or so revisations were done.

thats cool there is a resistor on that circuit board that if you replace it with a pot you can control the speed that would make it even cooler
