This video demonstrates my 1966 Stock Arbiter Fuzz Face with NKT 275 Transistors.

The pedal is all original with the exception of one Knob, and the Battery Snap. The pedal has recently been reviewed by analogman and has only had superficial work done (re-attaching battery snap, cleaning, and such)

The clip is played with a Stratocaster with Texas Special Pickups, into the PODXT's Marshall Plexi Setting.

  • Check my other video where I compare this fuzz face against a rebuilt fuzz face. I must give credit where credit is due though...Analogman's Fuzz Faces are amazing.

  • at the time it was the only way I could shoot video and get the audio recorded as well.

  • that's really funny you put it through a Pod

  • its all about the NKT-275

  • Thanks! cool !

  • @oxidindigo Hey, I build a few fuzz type pedals. Check out Orbit mk1 for the fuzz face clone. and Orbit mk2 for the SS Tonebender clone. Thanks let me know what you think.

  • It beats me why they never fitted a simple tone control (treble cut) across the output; it takes that harshness out - much better for chords.

  • @oxidindigo At the very minimum, the modern fuzz face probably has silicon transistors, which, although they are better in some specs like consistency and gain compared to the old germanium transistors, "clip" more sharply, adding some harshness to the tone. I'm not as sure on this next point, but the vintage fuzz face had low input impedance, which meant it actually interacted with the circuitry in the guitar in a way that a modern, probably buffered, fuzz face doesn't. What brand did you buy?

  • Great sound, and through a pod.

  • Sounds awesome!

  • ive never heard a fuzz face clone come even close to sounding as good as an original like this, even exact replicas. why the hell is that? are todays electronic components like trannies and resistors really such absolute shit compared to back then? seems like it. how hard can it be to make that stuff and actually have it be of decent quality? it baffles me what the secret is to these old pedals and amps.
