University of Wisconsin Oshkosh nursing student Sgt. Gregory Bresnehan was awarded a scholarship from the Army Nurse Corps Association on Friday, July 8, 2011.
The purpose of the Army Nurse Corps Association Memorial Scholarship Program is to award scholarships to students who are U.S. citizens attending accredited baccalaureate or graduate nursing or anesthesia nursing programs. Bresnehan, 34, is currently one of six men enrolled in the accelerated nursing program at UW Oshkosh has been serving with the Army Reserves since 2004. He has an undergraduate degree from UW Oshkosh in criminal justice.
Bresnehan was one of 15 selected from a large number of applicants to receive this year's scholarship. This year's scholarship is awarded in memory of three Army Nurse Corps Officers who gave their lives at Fort Hood Readiness Center in November 2009. The three soldiers are Lieutenant Colonel Juanita Warman, Captain Russell Seager (a Wisconsin-based nurse) and Captain John Gaffaney, who were serving in the United States Army Reserve being prepared for deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan.
