Oh I do adore the Orange ads, but really, you'd think they would be a bit more clever in advertising themselves.

@broadwayboy912 well, in the movie she melted, but in the play and the book she lived. in the play, she was only on a trap door, slowly letting her down as she 'melted' but then came back up and walked offstage with her love Fiero.

Hey that's Australian Witch.

How was this a history?

Okay, i saw the play, read both books, and watched the movie. I'll sum it up:
Play: hid under a trap door and left with fiyero
Wizard of Oz movie: melted
Wizard of Oz book: melted
Wicked book: supposedly melted, but at the end, the child asks her mother if she will come back, and she replies not yet. So the fifth book (which is yet to come out) might include her, so it could go either way

@delibessylvia2: It is a happy ending for Elphaba herself, even if she and Fiyero are ex-communicated from Oz, because really, Elphie was supposed to die in-canon, via the original Baum book, the MGM film, and even the Wicked novel itself.
-
@delibessylvia2: The Baum book and the MGM film--both done for children--both had the witch melt, so changing it "for the children" doesn't make sense to me.

@TherealRNO i know what you mean .I am not such a fan of theEnd of the musical but it isnt a happy ending .Glinda still thinks that she is dead .Which is a sad ending for Glinda .But he did it because of the children .it wouldnt fit in a musical they cant stop the muscial after she has melted but i know what you mean

@delibessylvia2: In the novel--which is TRUER to the MGM film that is the inspiration FOR Wicked--Elphie does go crazy near the end of her life, does become "wicked", and does melt. The musical gave a TRAGIC character a Disney-esque happy ending when she was NOT MEANT TO have one. Aside from the musical score, giving a character of tragedy a happy ending is as bad as that Romeo & Juliet film of the 90's that BOMBED horribly, all BECAUSE it RUINED the tragic aspect of the story it was based on.

@beauxbatonsboy in wicked she doesnt die ,but in the novel she does melt .
Okay Everyone that's saying she didn't die, I know but you have to stay til the end I say "the wicked witch of the west is now dead or is she"
