Here we are planting some single head wheat grow out plots. The breeder cross pollenated over 1000 single heads of wheat and gathered the 25 or so seeds from each one and bagged them seperately. Then we plant a single row by about 2 or 3 feet with that seed, and this is what you are seeing here. Map making and keeping the plots organized is critical. We have a master map, and we are also taking the 4 bags from each planting set and putting them in planting order and putting them on a stake at the edge of the plot for later gathering and cross checking. The clear hoppers on the planter boxes allow us to see clearly that all seed are planted, and if not, the hopper is removed, emptied and the additional seeds hand planted back into the plot.
